June 23rd was a big day for Taylor......grade 8 graduation day!!! It was also a big day for Grandma......her 65th birthday!!! So, needless to say, it was an exciting day in our family.
Grandpa and Grandma came up to Burlington for the day. We had a relaxing time getting ready for Taylor's grad. After breakfast, I gave Taylor a manicure. When I was finished with Taylor, grandma walked in the front door, so I gave her a birthday manicure. We enjoyed some time visiting and after lunch we took Taylor to get her hair done. (Grandpa couldn't believe how much time and effort went into getting ready for the big event.)
While Taylor was getting her hair done, Amber walked with Grandma and Grandpa and did a little shopping. After her appointment, we had lots of time to go back home and relax before Taylor had to be at school for the group photo. Dinner was at the school gym at 6:30, and the ceremony was held at Compass Point church on Kerns Rd. at 8pm. Oma, Aunt Caroline, Aunt Joyce, Karlene, and Joelle came down from Orillia to see Taylor graduate. She really appreciated them taking time out of their busy lives to make the big drive down.
It was a lovely program, and it held a couple surprises for Taylor. Taylor received the Jordan Moxam Memorial Sportsmanship Award as well as the Academic Achievement award. The sportmanship award was a wonderful surprise......even daddy didn't know she was going to get it.
The other surprise came when they were handing out diplomas, calling the students up in alphabetical order. They skipped right over Taylor Schenk, going from another "S" last name right to a "T" last name. After handing out a diploma to another student, Rick decided to scoot across the stage to just find out why they skipped over Taylor. I think we were all wondering what was going on, whether or not it was a joke and they did it on purpose. I'm not really sure how it all happened, but I'm sure it made the evening even more memorable for Taylor, and Rick.
We are very proud of Taylor and all the hard work she put into her studies and extra-curricular activities. She played on every sports team this year, was on the "Battle of the Books" team, and also helped represent TCS at both the BASEF and the Redeemer Science Fairs. She missed a lot of school days because of all these activities, but she was faithful in always "catching up".
Taylor will be attending King's Christian Collegiate along with her sister Amber in September, and I'll bet Daddy will miss seeing his girl at school.
All in all, graduation day and evening were a lot of fun and I know Taylor thoroughly enjoyed getting dressed up like a princess!
