Party Time

It is Canada Day weekend...the weekend when sister-in-law Caroline throws a party to celebrate Canada's birthday, but also that of Brian and Daniel.  So, this morning we ventured up to Orillia with the holiday weekend traffic to join some of our family for a sunny day at Opa and Oma's.  The weather was lovely and the company was great.  A wonderful time was had by all.  (We even managed to catch a glimpse of the Snow Birds as they put on a show this afternoon.)

Easter Weekend 2011

We are enjoying a relaxing Easter weekend.  We have a visiting pastor this weekend and we are being fed some wonderful messages focusing on Christ's work.
On Friday afternoon, we went up to Orillia for a little visit for Oma's birthday and we enjoyed a time of visiting and one of Oma's famous turkey dinners.
We spent Friday night at a Hampton Inn together with the kids.  They enjoyed the pool and I enjoyed watching them enjoy the pool.
Today Rick and I went for a wonderful spring walk by the lake.  I took my camera and captured a few pictures.  It has been a blessed weekend and I have been thankful for the time we could spend with family and in meditation on Christ's death and resurrection.  We have an awesome God!

Orillia in July

Amber and Taylor recently spent a week in Orillia visiting with our family there.  It was a week filled with girl-fun and relaxing.  They enjoyed the time to be with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins that they do not see very often.  The Schenk girls from Michigan also spent the week there, so it was quite the girls' camp.  We are very thankful to the Orillians for taking care of the ladies for the week.  The girls had so much fun and they can't wait to do it again next year?!?

The boys stayed home with dad and mom, but we did spent a day in Orillia visiting as well, and the kids had a great time in the water.  David and Levi tried out tubing behind the smaller aluminum boat and David even caught a rather large fish.  They threw it back in the water after we got a picture, and as far as I know, he swam away.  Taylor also showed us her water skiing skills and Amber enjoyed a wild ride on the tube with Opa at the controls.  It was a lovely holiday filled with memories the kids will keep with them for a long time.

Schenkies On The Beach

The last weekend of May turned out to be a lovely hot one, so we went down to the beach to hang out for a while, enjoy the sunshine, the cool breeze, and the action on the water.  There were quite a few boats on the water.  Motor boats, sail boats, and a lovely ship went through the Hamilton harbour.  We watched the lift bridge go up and the lovely loud horn that is sounded by the bridge control man made a couple of us jump.  It was a lovely day complete with a little football toss and tanning.

Sunday Afternoon at the Park

Burloak Park was the location for today's outdoor activities.  David had fun looking for beautiful rocks along the shoreline and I sat there until I got too freaked out by all the spiders that were crawling in and around all the rocks...yuck.  I was hoping to sit there and read, but that didn't last very long.  The eight-legged creatures were a bit too much for me.  The kids enjoyed a little batting practice until the old baseball fell apart, and we watched the rainy clouds race across the sky.  David and Amber did a little tree climbing and I didn't get much reading done.  We didn't get any rain while we were there, but I believe the weather man says it's coming.

Awesome rain clouds moving along

Family out for a Sunday Swim

Rick says that it's not fair that the keeper of the blog gets to choose which pictures go on, and since he took so many of me while I was up to bat, I thought I'd post at least one of myself just to keep him happy.

Easter Weekend 2010

One of our favourite places to walk around Burlington is down by the lake.  There are wonderful trails all along the lakeshore.  Today we went roller-blading on the trail just on the Hamilton side of the Skyway, but yesterday we walked along the trail and spent some time just enjoying the sunshine and the breeze.  There were a lot of people out and about and there were even a few boats on the water.  This Easter weekend it has felt like summer with temperatures around 25 degrees.  The magnolia blooms are already opening and the grass is turning so green.  There are bumble bees and lots of lady bugs.  I had fun watching this particular lady bug sun itself on the rocks by the beach.  There were so many different breeds of dogs walking their owners and people enjoying the ice cream and outdoor patio restaurants along the way.  We heard some great messages at church this weekend, from both pastor Joe Boot as well as our own pastor, but we have also had a beautiful time of fun and relaxation with the family, enjoying the outdoors, quiet walks, basketball, tennis, badminton, rollerblading, and movie watching...we did it all.  What a refreshing weekend.  We are so blessed!
